How Does the Living of Elderly Citizens Look Like in Prague and Vienna? Comparison of Housing Policies through the Theory of Social Construction of Target Populations

The thesis pursues a comparison of housing policy designs in Prague and Vienna with a particular focus on the target group of the elderly population. The research is based on the social construction theory of target populations by Ingram and Schneider. The aim is to map the housing situation of elderly in both cities, identify differences and similarities between the two designs and propose housing policy recommendations stemming from the analysis. The research is based on statistical data, public policy documents and on expert interviews. The thesis describes social construction theory and principles of comparative research, demographic ageing and the situation of the elderly in terms of finances, housing, health and education. Further ahead, it describes the housing policies in Prague and Vienna, moving from the general setting of these policies to specific measures concerning the elderly. In the last section, it describes selected elements of policy design and proposes policy recommendations.
Comparison of approaches towards people with disability in Francoist Spain and socialist Czechoslovakia

The thesis compares the position of people with disabilities in two non-democratic regimes of the 20th century, namely Francoist Spain and socialist Czechoslovakia. The attitudes of each regime and the state initiatives taken in the field of care for people with disabilities are analysed. The possibilities for the development of the various organisations and their activities are also described. The work also focuses on two areas of the life of a person with disabilities - education and employment. The findings presented are set in the historical context of each country. The method used is the analysis and interpretation of legislation, state documents and academic publications. The comparison presents common features in the field of disability care, such as lack of interest in the issue, efforts to unify disability support organisations and their control. Both states have established segregated education for persons with disabilities. The employment of persons with disabilities depended on the form of economic establishment. Protected employment in Czechoslovakia was mediated by Svaz invalidů (the Union of the Disabled). In Spain, ONCE played a key role in providing employment for people with visual impairments. Gaining Independence of Clients of Facilities of Alternative Education Care in International Comparison

Gaining independence of clients in the system of the alternative education care is the cardinal topic of the work. Within the framework of the international comparison, the author analyses and makes a survey of the problems accompanying this process. The work does not contain only the conclusions the author came to based on the research in chosen countries (Czech Republic and Poland) but also presents suitable recommendations how the problem of gaining independence of clients of the alternative education care can be solved. The introductory part is applied to theoretical solutions, the international comparisons and examples of a good practice abroad. The author follows opinions of different experts in causalities of the problem from the influence of the biological family through socialization of the clients of the education care to the very problems of the institutional care. He presents these opinions subsequently in the context. In the methodological and research parts the author tries to answer the cardinal question: "What is way the clients of the alternative education care are prepared in order to gain independence?" The Analysis of Development of Military Expenditure of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

The aim of the bachelor thesis called "The Analysis of Development of Military Expenditure of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" is to evaluate the military expenditure of the United Kingdom with regards to changes which rose after the general election results in year 2010. In the first section theoretical definitions, historic and military-economic development of the United Kingdom are described. The second part is describing the defence reviews and the conclusions of current white paper are summarized. It also analysis the development in time, structure of defence expenditure according to purpose, evaluation of British troops participating in selected international military operations as well as the status of the United Kingdom among NATO members regarding the fulfilment of the commitment to NATO of spending at least 2% of GDP on Defence. The final part is dedicated to the international comparison of 15 countries with the highest military expenditure.
